What is a redingote? A dress or coat, opened along the front to reveal an under dress or petticoat. The name comes from the English ‘riding coat’, which they were based upon. The modern form of the redingote maintains a close fit at the chest and waist, a belt or waist embellishment, and a flare toward the hem.

The wedding gowns shown above depict the modern take on the redingote look.
